Media and Communications Director
Position Overview
The Media & Communications Director will lead BrandsMart’s integrated media and communications strategy across paid, earned, and owned channels. Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing, this role oversees the planning, execution, and optimization of media efforts through our agency partners, while managing the in-house creative and social media teams. The Director will also own internal communications, ensuring all messaging, from national campaigns to employee updates, aligns with our brand essence: Unbeatable, Unexpected, Unlimited.
This position is both strategic and hands-on. It requires a leader with significant experience in brand development, corporate branding strategies, and customer marketing. The ideal candidate will be adept at balancing long-term brand-building with short-term sales-driving campaigns. They must be skilled at managing opportunities against budgets, influencing operating budget decisions through ROI forecasts, and creating comprehensive program proposals that align the organization while balancing tactical and reactive initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Integrate market research, consumer sentiment, and brand guidelines into all campaign planning.
- Media Relations & Public Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, media partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Coordinate and manage media events, ensuring optimal coverage and positive brand representation.
- Enhance the organization’s public image, manage public perception, and represent BrandsMart at events, in interviews, and in public forums.
- Content, Digital, and Brand Communications:
- Serve as the brand voice guardian, ensuring all communications reflect the BrandsMart Brand Guidelines.
- Oversee the creation, distribution, and performance of content for social media, websites, email marketing, and other digital platforms.
- Direct the creative team of three graphic and web designers and the social media coordinator to produce engaging, on-brand content.
- Internal Communications:
- Ensure employees are informed about company news, initiatives, and objectives through newsletters, announcements, and other channels.
- Align internal communications with external messaging to maintain consistency and engagement.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of communication professionals, fostering collaboration, creativity, and professional development.
- Budget Management
- Manage communication budgets and allocate resources effectively to maximize ROI.
- Partner with agencies to ensure paid media spend is efficient and aligned with strategic goals.
- Performance Measurement
- Track and analyze communication metrics to assess effectiveness, optimize campaigns, and inform future strategies.
- Report regularly on key performance indicators, including awareness, engagement, media efficiency, and traffic impact.
- Reputation & Crisis Response
- Work closely with customer service to address negative reviews and online feedback in a timely, brand-appropriate manner
- Support the VP of Marketing in managing brand reputation during PR-sensitive situations.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in marketing, media, and communications, preferably in retail, consumer electronics/appliances, big-box, and/or e-commerce.
- Significant experience in brand development and customer marketing.
- Experience with corporate branding approaches and strategies, ensuring consistency and impact across all channels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage opportunities versus budgets, exercise influence on operating budgets based on plans and ROI forecasts, and align the organization behind strategic, comprehensive program proposals while balancing tactical and reactive initiatives.
- Proven media relations expertise, including understanding the media landscape and managing press interactions.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing creative and social media teams.
- Advanced knowledge of social media tools, content management systems, and digital marketing best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation ability.
- Strategic thinking with a track record of developing and implementing effective communication strategies.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess communication metrics and make data-driven decisions.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
